Job Description

A Gila County Sheriff’s Deputy performs a variety of law enforcement duties and maintains public safety. Deputy responsibilities include:
•    Enforcing local, state, and federal laws.
•    Patrolling unincorporated areas within Gila County and responding to calls.
•    Apprehending and transporting suspects.
•    Interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects.
•    Identifying, collecting, and submitting evidence.
•    Issuing citations, executing warrants, and testifying in court.
•    Preparing and providing accurate reports documenting incidents and activities.
•    Responding to emergency and non-emergency situations.
•    Preventing and investigating illegal activities, domestic disturbances, etc
•    Provides backup assistance, scene security, and protection for regional emergency services personnel.
•    Conducts traffic stops and investigates traffic accidents and criminal violations; assists motorists, victims, and witnesses and investigates incidents as required.
•    Assists and interacts with other Sheriff’s personnel, County departments, outside organizations and businesses, and Federal, State, and Local law enforcement organizations to accomplish tasks.
•    Presents education and information through community and school awareness projects; counsels residents on law enforcement regulations, activities, programs, and referral resources.

Position Qualifications

Minimum education and/or experience:

•    High school diploma or GED

•    Must be a U.S. citizen

•    Must be twenty (20) years and six (6) months of age at the time of application, and 21 years of age prior to the completion of the Sheriff's academy.

•    Must meet Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) standards.

Hiring Process:

​​Hiring timeline: the process can be completed in a short 3-4 weeks depending applicant's responsiveness to the hiring and background team.

​

The hiring team will work with applicants to minimize the amount of trips needed to complete the hiring process. The process can be completed in one trip over several days.

​

Can I retest if I fail any portion of the hiring process?

Yes, depending on what you fail will determine how long you must wait to retest.

Gila County Sheriff’s Office is proud to offer competitive wages through a (STEP) program.

Step 1: $83,773.00

Lieutenant Pay Scale

Step 1: $102,364.00

Special Assignment Pay

$3,521 Annually 

​

Entry-level applicants may be eligible to use their years of military service towards pay step increases.

​

  • Dental (There are two plans of dental coverage to choose from).

  • Vision (The County offers one vision plan with no deductible).

  • PSPRS retirement system. (Tier eligibility may differ for lateral positions)

  • Annual leave accrual of 12 days a year for the first 3 years.

  • Sick leave is accrued at 12 days per year.

  • 10 paid holidays per year

  • Tuition reimbursement opportunities.

  • Uniforms and required equipment are supplied by the office along with a uniform maintenance allowance.
